I feel like every mapping tutorial starts in the middle and I'm lost.

What I want to be doing is to be making some old decorative-build objects repository to Buggybooz's Nook set. As I understand it, I'll want to remap them so they fit coherently on the map (so when the texture is bricks, the bricks are running the right way and are the right size, for example).  I have a lot of questions brewing about the whole process, but I'm stymied before I start, because:

Don't I have to start with exporting an .obj file somehow? The tutorials I read start with an .obj file already in hand.

Getting an object file is pretty straightforward, extract the mesh with SimPe import it into Milkshape and export as Wavefront OBJ.

That said I've never remapped anything using the .obj file because I never really understood how to work with UVMapper or similar programs, what I've done to remap and slave things to BB niches is to extract the mesh of the object I want to remap and the mesh of master niche from which everything is repository, I also extract the main the brick texture and put everything in Milkshape place the textures in both meshes and move stuff around in the texture coordinator editor until it resembles the look of the master mesh both in size and direction.

Sometimes I divide the mesh I am working on into several individual pieces to map them correctly and merge them back together once the mapping works, others I rebuild small parts of it to be able to map them correctly, specially if a very square object I find that I am quicker recreating it than trying to force the original mapping to fit.

Edit: Small correcction because I mixed up programs... I really need to proofread before posting
