Title: Glendalough (world)
Post by: neuroticrobotic on August 18, 2011, 01:36:29 AM
(http://neuroticrobotic.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Glendalough/Glen003.png/_big.jpg)

Glendalough is a strange, sleepy town nestled between rows of rolling green hills. The thickly wooded landscape is riddled with odd ruins, strange swamps, and massive boulders. The old homes range from refined to rustic and the various parks and civic buildings are overgrown and gray.

This world was built on a large-sized map, but the playable area is equivalent to that of a medium-sized world. There are a little over 100 lots (including two secret tombs), the vast majority of which were built from scratch by me. There is a decent number of empty lots within that count, so you can easily build and expand. Glendalough has unique sky and water and also features multiple rabbit hole recolors. It's unpopulated, so you're free to mold the town's inhabitants to your liking.

I'd also liked to add that the various lots and streets in Glendalough are named after all manner of nerdy things including Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Lovecraft, and... Mushrooms.

If you want to get a better sense of this world, there's about 100 additional pictures and some documentation here (http://freudroid.livejournal.com/17495.html#cutid1).

Requirements

Eps: Base Game, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night
Patch: At least 1.22

Stuff Pack Content: (Nab at MATY (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/), SimsStore, or SimsFairyTales (http://simsfairytales.secretsstories.net/))

Riverview(installed normally via the launcher, it's free after all)

Dr. Prosper's Glowing Orb *
Pastoral Perfection Stove *
Retronator Stove(Regal Living Kitchen) *
Window of All-Knowing(Regal Living Kitchen) *

* These were run through S3RC and then installed as Sims3packs, I think the same process must be used in order for them to show up properly

CC:
Awesim's Cornices (http://awesims.sixty-ten.net/2010/12/10/miscellaneous-bits-for-the-sims-3/)
Jynx's Rabbit Hole Doors (http://customsims3.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=53&highlight=rugs)

Known Issues

When the world is loaded for the first time, you will need to save, exit to the main menu, and then reenter the world. This is to ensure the fog emitter effects will show up properly. If you don't do this, you will have lots of weird foggy spots on the ground instead of pigeons and fireflies.  You will only need to do this the very first time you open the world. ;D

Sometimes, Jynx's Rabbithole doors will not show up properly after installing. If this is the case with you, you will need to replace these objects on the following lots (please click names for pictures):

Broadmoore Military Base (http://neuroticrobotic.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Glendalough/RabbitMilitary.png/_big.jpg)
Haverhill Hospital (http://neuroticrobotic.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Glendalough/RabbitHospital.png/_big.jpg)

As one of the people who had the privilege of beta testing this world I can say with confidence that this is a fantastic world to play. The subdued lighting makes for a moody and interesting atmosphere. And it is absolutely stunning, with lots of little details that I kept spotting throughout making my sim run around testing it out. It's gorgeous and an absolute pleasure to play.

This is amazing, love the row houses!

Question, though. What are the lots that require the expansion packs? Or are they just objects? I'd love to have this in my game. but I only run base game. (Unless I'm being a total idiot, would it even work without the expansions?)

You guys are the best! I'm so happy you like it!

And Engram! :flower4u: Thank you once again, you've been so helpful.

Alistair - Unfortunately, this world really uses a lot of content from all the EPs indicated. I assume the special lot types would be a particular problem, but also the trees and bridges would disappear. If you see something specific that you like(perhaps a lot or rabbithole recolor?), I might be able to pack those things up separately for you. There could be other options as well, I'll look around for more info.  :holmes:

That's a pity. I feel like rushing to the store to get all three EPs so you world would work!  :'( That's very kind of you though (I feel like I'm asking too much now!), since I do love those cottage-esque houses, and the row houses as well. The rabbithole recolours are brilliant as well.  ;D

Whoa, awesome world! I'm another fan of your color palette for Glendalough. :D I've been dying to play another user-created world (that's not heavy cc) while decorating the unfurnished Oakville (taking foreverrrrrr) and this looks perfect. Where did you use the Store objects? Sadly not all decrapped store objects are equal, so figured I'd ask to go about replacing any into their proper places.

You guys are all so awesome.   :-[

SweetCat - Yes, there are a few things this world needs in order to work properly. Please read my original post for requirements and known issues. If after reading those sections you have any additional questions, feel free to ask here or pm me if you like.  :)

Clutzy - Unfortunately, the store stoves and lights are used rather liberally throughout the world. It would be difficult to map where they all are; however, I think they will be replaced with objects of the same function if they do not show up(please correct me if I am wrong)? The store windows are only used on the following lots and should be easy to replace: Glanmore Observatory(the map icon is a hangout), St. Giaour's(vampire bar),  and The Wood Ear(there are two of these - they're identical, adjacent residential lots). If you need any further info, please let me know.  :thanks:

All good! I peeked into Glendalough a few days ago and had no notification of objects replaced, so looks like I'm all in the clear ;D. This'll be handy for others in case they're wondering what was replaced so thank you. Haven't got a chance to poke around fully yet, but one last question. Is it Awesomized or do I need to go plunking cribs down?

Title: Re: Glendalough: A Peculiar World for TS3
Post by: neuroticrobotic on August 27, 2011, 01:45:38 PM
I'm glad your store content ended up compatible, Clutzy! If anything mysterious pops up, let me know.
There's a boatload of cribs throughout the world. I didn't add them to every household for variety's sake, but I  did stick them in the vast majority. Using Awesomemod's story progression should land you with a hefty pile of sprogs.  ;)

If you want to know which houses don't have them, I could make a list if you want.

How do I get celebrities and vampires to come live in this world?

Title: Re: Glendalough: A Peculiar World for TS3
Post by: Mumbles on August 31, 2011, 08:13:35 AM
Just wanted to chime in and say this world is blooming fantastic. It suits my style of playing far better than the garish Suburban bleh of Sunset Valley et al. I find I'm being much more imaginative now because of Glendalough's inspiration! Plus, I have to commend you for making something which works on a slow computer like my mac. Baa, etc.

The only issue I have come across so far is that the lot called "Silky Sphinx" (I think that's its name, anyway) does not show up for me when you visit it. There's just a blank grassy space where I assume a building should be. What sort of lot is this meant to be, out of curiosity?

Title: Re: Glendalough: A Peculiar World for TS3
Post by: neuroticrobotic on August 31, 2011, 03:24:01 PM
lacinumnutz - You must play with Story Progression on for a few days in order for the town to get celebrities and vampires.  :)

Mumbles - I'm so happy to hear that I could have some small part in provoking your imagination. I couldn't ask for a greater compliment! The Silky Sphinx lot is supposed to hold the spa rabbit hole. Did you install Riverview? I believe that is the version I used, although I'm sure you could just plop down the BG one in its stead.   :thanks:

Title: Re: Glendalough: A Peculiar World for TS3
Post by: Mumbles on August 31, 2011, 05:31:03 PM
Aha! Cheers for the prompt info, I will just plop down a different spa in its place. I do have Riverview, but I think I might have acquired it via non-standard methods, so that's probably why it isn't showing. Well, here's hoping it's that and not a sign of real trouble in my game!

I do have story progression on.  I'm on week 9 with a family I've been playing and still no celebrities or vampires.  Is my game being wonky now?  I love this world and I've been playing it ever since I installed it.

Title: Re: Glendalough: A Peculiar World for TS3
Post by: neuroticrobotic on September 03, 2011, 02:07:58 PM
Do you have a mod that effects story progression (like Awesomemod or Twallan's StoryProgression)? If that's the case, I believe you will need to temporarily disable it or use cheats to convert some members of your town into celebrities or vampires (because mods such as these override EA's Story Progression mode). Personally, I use Awesomemod's SP and I use Twallan's Master Controller to make occult sims and celebrities. Depending on what mods you have installed, I'd do some googling to find a solution you like best.

If you don't have such a mod, something wonky is going on. With EA's SP a certain number of sims will be converted into vampires and celebrities within about 2 sim days, no matter what world you're playing.  :(

Wow I love this world! Really an awesome work! I played it a few sims days with Twallans Storyprogression and some of his other mods.
All worked fine, but now suddenly my active sims and also the npcs cant go inside the school and city hall anymore... They walk in front of the doors and then get the sign above their heads that they cant access the building like something is in their way... and they turn around and go away.

I think the same is on the crime building lot.

After this Storyprogression generates many windows with sims who dont go to school or to work... :( What could it be? Anyone had this problem also?

Greetings!

Post by: neuroticrobotic on September 19, 2011, 01:37:54 PM
Tanja - I don't use Twallan's Story Progression so I'm really not sure. I tested this world with EA Story Progression and Awesome Story Progression for several in-game weeks and I had no such issues.  :(

I have read many, many accounts on the official forum of other people having this problem in both EA and custom worlds. So, I suspect it's EA bugginess. One thing you could try is deleting the buidling(rabbithole object) in edit town mode and then replacing it. You may need to use the "moveobjects on" cheat in order to put them in the same location.

Ah thank you very much, wasnt sure about, because I couldnt place the lots after deleting. Yeah sure moveobjects cheat could change it!
Thank you again :) I will give it a try hopefully the buildings will work again after it :)

I just wanted to thank you for a truly amazing World!  I absolutely LOVE Glendalough!  I really like the look and feel of the neighborhood and the buildings.  Great job!   :cheer: Btw, I don't know if you intended this, but I noticed that the sim family I moved into the house at 11 Shrake Street can hear the music from Sutekh's Circle club next door when they are in any of the rooms on the side of the house facing the club (all three floors)!  Ah!  The joys of "city" living!   :)  Thanks again!

I just have to say that after playing this world for a while, I think that this is seriously one of the best custom worlds out there! And it's pretty much the only one that I can play that is both creepy and doesn't slow down my game. I love it, and so do my many, many vampire Sims!

I downloaded the world, it looks fabulous and the rabbit holes that you linked with the world, but I can't add them onto the City hall etc....do I need both the doors and the rugs or just doors?  Also I did update my game to patch 1.26, is this maybe why the rabbitholes aren't linking to the lots by themselves?

Okay I figured it out, love this world to pieces..... with the pets patch, it's best to have some kind of mod that will disable the service animal sims from spawning because they're getting stuck...Since I don't really want wild animals in this world, it's working out for me.  Thanks!!!!

Quick question though, because I've noticed that you mentioned Riverview is needed. Is it because you used Riverview as a template to make it? Because I can't seem to get my game to cooperate with Riverview. :(

I still can't believe the number of sweet comments I've received in this thread. Thanks everyone! :heartburp:

Missbonbon - Thankfully, Riverview is probably the least essential requirement. I used the Riverview spa rabbithole which is located on the lot "The Silky Sphinx". You can just add the BG version to that lot instead. You may need to use the moveobjects cheat in order for it to end up in the same spot. Other than that, there's just a few pieces of world deco that wouldn't show up. No biggie.  :)

huclya - I was absolutely inspired by Ireland's Glendalough! I had initially intended to recreate it somehow, but I sort of veered off into left field.  :P

This world looks absolutely amazing!  I know I'm going out on a limb here, but is there a CC Free version?

I love this world! It's atmospheric, but not too depressing. The layout is pretty and thoughtful, and the shout outs not amusing but not blaring. Best of all, it doesn't lag much on my poor old laptop!

I don't play vampires, so I changed St. Giaour to a no visitors allowed lot. It adds a touch more mysterious old lore to the town that way, in my opinion - kind of like Stonehenge, only... not. ;)

I love the feel of this world! Great job!

However - the lighting in my game looks very strange. Almost too dark. How can I fix this?

After all this time. It's still a beautiful world. Thank you!
