Title: 2011.05 - Sci Fi
Post by: Nymphy on May 01, 2011, 06:12:35 AM
Science Fiction
We don't know the future

The poll this month was looking very close for a while, but Sci Fi has been victorious! With almost a third of all the votes, your theme for this month is all about science fiction.

So what does this theme entail? Well the obvious thing which springs to mind is aliens. Alien genetics, alien objects, and everything alien is welcome. You could create CC for your own alien race, or take inspiration/remake aliens from a certain book/film/show/comic, etc. But it isn't just aliens! Science fiction is a genre which is basically alternative science. It is re-imagining of science in an often futuristic setting (but it does not just have to be for the future. Be inventive! There could be some other worldy technology in a retro 50s diner!) . Although we have had a steampunk theme already, this does overlap into this theme. Robots and aliens are just the start, there is so much you can do with this theme. Think "alternative science".  ^_^ We can't wait to see what creativity you come up with!

I had my finger on the trigger for this thread to be opened. :D

coffin kicker (http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm176/psychosim/GoS%20contest/nh-UFOs_coffin.jpg)

As homage to old sci-fi films like Plan 9 from Outer Space or Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers, I present you the classic flying saucers!
They're neighbourhood deco, there's one default replacing the helicopters (requires Nightlife, based on some default Bloom once made) and some stationary UFO hovering at the height of about 10 stories (one EP required, no matter which one). The texture is animated, all UFOs are actually rotating! Like any other deco the stationary UFO is visible from lots!

The beam is not part of the deco! I was just lucky that Mr. Curious got abducted
the second he touched that telescope and took advantage of the situation.

The polycount is 704 and you'll find it in the misc. category.

I forgot to say: You can place the UFO anywhere, even under water if you wish.

MJSpice, of course all CC types are allowed, so yes you can do sims. Only themes which are category limited (eg Build Mode) have a restriction on them. This is a style/genre theme, so all types of CC are allowed.

I have some recolors of Pixelhate's wall overlay. (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=242442) Should be basegame compatible, compressiorized, and meshes included. They're labelled and numbered so you can delete the ones you don't want.

Thanks to Psychosim and JessicaDarling, awesome submissions already!

I recently found fantasyrogue's awesome Tabula Rasa robot skin (http://fantasyrogue.livejournal.com/35729.html) and I decided to make it into a default Servo replacement on Amyrll's androgyny servo mesh. (http://gardenofshadows.org.uk/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=17357.0) Some quick copypasta later, these guys were born.

I also remembered to make the witch, vampire, and werewolf head overlays. However I did not remember to take in game pictures. I will try to get some later.

Male and female servos are distinguished by the colors of the ears. Blue for male, purple for female.

Grab them here! (http://www.mediafire.com/?1gpb7wb18uphwru)

(mesh is included)

EDIT: Now with working download link!

Pretty much all of the credit goes to Amaryll and Fantasyrogue for their super wonderful content.

spiderviveka, the download link is borked. ;)

But I'm definitely downloading this. I rarely play with servos because they look weird, but this is an excellent default. (Love the title, by the way.)

Title: Re: GoS May theme - Sci Fi
Post by: columnar on May 02, 2011, 12:05:46 AM
spiderviveka, all your links are borked, not just the download one--I think you formatted them incorrectly. Super awesome upload, though! I don't use Servos much, but I might download this--I really like that it's less cartoony than Maxis, but still obviously robotic--the wooden servo replacements are neat looking, but don't match my game aesthetic at all. This is pretty sweet, though. Thanks for sharing! :)

Title: Re: GoS May theme - Sci Fi
Post by: spiderviveka on May 02, 2011, 12:11:33 AM
Ok, the links should in theory be fixed.

EDIT: Ok, everything is actually fixed now. I fail very badly at using BBcode, it seems.

Also, I'm glad you guys like it!

Oh wowzers if I had Open for Bussiness I'd install it purely for the servo defaults, ditto with Nightlife and the Saucers (bad Sci-Fi junkie here).
I don't play Portal but those poster are cute too. :)

This theme is so amazing so far!

Oh my fluffy little pink snorkack, the theme has barely started and there are so awesome stuff already! 8-D It's times like these that I realise what a huge sci-fi geek I am. Thank you so so very much, guys! <3

@spiderviveka, your default is especially appreciated from my part, as I imagine you have saved me a great deal of headache! (I wanted to default that skin too, but I'm a newb at defaulting). So yay & thanks for reading my mind! :D

Yay, I finally get to contribute! I actually made this last week, without knowing this month's theme. Sorry for the absolute lack of effort put into making previews pretty.

So, here's my MultiPT hack, featuring Jessi's Wearing Diamonds skins (http://jessi-dot.dreamwidth.org/1798.html?thread=21766&style=light) and Rensim's eyes.

Yay, facial expressions!

Alpha's got black hair, Beta brown, Gamma red, and Delta's blond- he just has no hair or eyebrows, because he looked really weird with them. More and children can be seen at my dreamwidth (http://siofrabunnies.dreamwidth.org/1256.html). (Sorry for the emptiness there; I jsut got it started.

It shouldn't be too hard for users to place a search/spotlight on a 180 degree OMSP and hide it, upside down, in the body of the UFO.  :aliens!:

I made a bunch of minimalist sci-fi movie posters on the 'Surfing the Universe' Maxis mesh.  :)

They are available in English and Simlish and nearly identical to each other.

9 posters for each language and all clearly labelled.

I decided to squidify a hair with Nymphy's cthulhu textures because, come on, what alien doesn't want squid hair?!

The mesh is included, and they've been compressorized. Elders are not grey.

Spooned I love those hairs! :) Those will be great for some aliens. <3  [I'd also love posters of your cute owls, and maybe you can draw some more with funny phrases! :D Just saying...]

This is officially awesome! I especially love the new servos. The EAxis ones just seemed a little... bulky.

And I'd just like to say that I do know the future - his name's Steve and he likes milkshakes!

All the uploads so far are REALLY well done, guys :-) Too bad I don't have much use for them, never personally been a big fan of sci-fi although.... my guilty pleasure is Firefly. It would be awesome to see some stuff from that show in here :-)

So so thrilled with this theme & perfect timing as I need to decorate Bella's lab!  I'm pretty sure I'll be downloading everything...

Psychosim:  You are so creative.  The saucers are awesome.  I have absolutely no use for them (yet) but I will come up with one just to see one in action!

JessicaDArling:  Thank you, One can never have too many signs in a lab.

spider & siofra:  Very cool skins.

Vintagecat:  Ooooooh, I love a Clockwork Orange!  Nice selection.

Spooned:  Those hairs are insanely cool.  Thank you!

Sharing 4 alien sims for the Scifi theme. :D

First up is Talia:

I actually shared her on another site but I guess it can't hurt if I share her here too.

She's an Intergalactic Skating Fanatic & loves spending her time practicing at Planet Ice Skates. She hopes one day she's get to met her fave skater Komoita Rubaral.
Download Talia (http://www.mediafire.com/file/jc0u31mnmwmmpul/Talia.Sims2Pack)

This here is Turakha:

Turakha is a cyborg merman who loves hacking into people's computers & playing pranks like putting up fake advertisements for Fish Sticks. Aside from that, he's an all around nice guy & does everything to help out his fellow merpeople find different homes with lots of water.

Download Turakha (http://www.mediafire.com/file/7ajlmowwr7d0iu9/Turakha.Sims2Pack)

Meet Veryan:

Veryan is one of the handful of the Pureblood Elves who have survived into the Sci Fi age. He's a bit conceited but has a brilliant mind. He loves talking walks among the "common" people in the Space Stations to study their different behaviors.

Download Veryan (http://www.mediafire.com/file/edfuzu815f6npyl/Veryan.Sims2Pack)

Lastly, here is Minerva:

Minerva comes from a long line of the "Shadow Wraiths" as her people are called. She loves the 21th Century East Asian culture of Old Earth, so much that she actually worked with her friends on an old desolate planet & turned it into an (almost) exact replica of that era & now lives there with her pet Cyborg Bull.

Download Minerva (http://www.mediafire.com/file/vunxz7di9adw414/Minerva.Sims2Pack)

Just have one request, don't share them on other sites. That's all. Kthnxbai. ^_^

INTRO/USELESS RAMBLING:
Well, I gotta say..this was way too much fun..and I have now listened to Katy Perry's "ET" song at least 150 times...I was inspired by her bizarre music video to create some "supernatural" looking makeup(s). I unoriginally dubbed them "Red Mask," "ET Poison," and "Toxicity."
The eyes were just something I found on the internets..retraced the original 'target' in the eye so that it could be seen better in game. I think they're pretty cool lookin'.
Although the above images look pretty edited, I really only amped up the brightness, did a little dodging and burning and of course placed the Sims on non-game backgrounds...but I know how people can get about that so I've included some bodyshop previews below. I brightened them just a smidgen so you can see my mistakes better.

Lastly I should mention that the makeup is found under FACE MASKS and they are LAYERABLE with one another. Uhm..and! They look really effing awesome with Nth's lashes. (http://gardenofshadows.org.uk/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=5739.0) Mesh can be found on page 7, reply #99, thanks to CuriousB.

[This picture is Coffin Kicker friendly]

Influenced just a little bit by the Cat People on Doctor Who, I present the "Invasion of the Cat People" Multi-PT replacement set.
(This is the first creation I've ever shared. I am going to hide under a rock now...)

There are four PTs in this set, each of which has a different feline skintone and pointy ears. Each of the four also has a different default hair colour--no custom colours--as well as different eyes. The eyes and skintone are custom, so will show up on all of their spawns. I tried using genetized eyes, but they wouldn't show up at all, and that was defeating the purpose of my replacement.
[Despite what can be seen on the pictures, all four of the Felines are packaged with Base Game hair and clothes, for minimal conflicts.]

PT #1 is Alpha Sandquest, a tiger lady with a fierce personality.
Skin by Genensims (http://genensims.com/skins/furry_05.htm), eyes by Phobia (http://kinemortophobia.livejournal.com/23404.html).

HOW TO USE THIS MOD:

The mod comes in three separate folders: eyes, skins, and PTs. (This is how I prefer it myself. Feel free to play around with the folders, but don't delete anything!) In the rar, you will also find a file named: MOD Multi Feline PTs. All of these files are crucial for the replacement to work properly. You must put all of the folders and the mod file in your downloads folder. [I suggest putting them in their own folder together, so as to not lose any of the pieces...]

If you decide you want to go back to the original Maxis PT, or you want to use a different replacement all-together, only take out the MOD file. DO NOT remove the skins, eyes, or PTs themselves, or their spawns will have broken genetics and broken family trees. [Alternatively, if the replacement PTs have not spawned at all in your game, taking them out will not break anything... Just be careful.]

THESE SIMS WILL SHOW UP  IN YOUR SIM BIN.  Do not delete them from the Sim bin, or they will disappear entirely. I have no idea what kind of result this would give, but I'm fairly certain it will NOT be pretty.

DISCLAIMER:
This mod was tested in a full game, with all EPs and SPs. If there are any problems/issues, let me know, and I will try to fix it ASAP.

Credits and thanks:
Simgaroop and Fwiffo for their Multi-PTs replacement tutorials and templates, without which I would never have figured this out.
Almighty Hat for the "Stolen by Fairies" mod, which I studied intensively when I was pondering whether to make this an eight or four PTs set. And also for her Multi-Ideal Plantsims replacement, since I have used her Fairies as bases to get the ears on three of the four PTs in this set.
The unknown creator of the amazing ears on Ryder. I used a sim from my sim bin, but I can't remember where I got him at all. If you do, please let me know so I can give proper credit.
Pinketamine for putting up with my questions, re: why the eyes were not showing up properly on the little kittens.
Genensims for the gorgeous skins used.
Phobia and Pinketamine for the eyes.

Milya: thanks for the encouragement! I'm glad you like the kitties. :D If you do try it, post pictures of the kittens. They are seriously adorable.

TeacupxTrauma: You're very welcome! So excited that you like it.

shannon: I adore cats; between my wife and I, we own four. This was the biggest incentive towards getting this done. :D

spiderviveka: You wouldn't have to get rid of the other multi-PT set entirely, you know. Just having the files in your downloads folder and swapping out the MOD files also work great. I currently use two sets (one of eight PTs and this one), and I will be making a third one soon--this time with reptiles.

To everyone who has contributed to this month's theme: everything is amazing. I have downloaded so much stuff, my downloads folder is probably going to explode soon-ish.

Doctor Who and Cross-Stitch are two of my most favourite things in the world. You bloody legend, JessicaDarling! (Now all I have to do is get that pattern in real life.)

My first contribution to a monthly theme. :) Two of my favourite sci-fi writers are Isaac Asimov and Philip K Dick, so I thought I'd turn some of their novel covers into art for my sims. There are twelve posters from each author, and the mesh is "Surfing the Universe" which requires Uni. Everything is compressorized; image credit to google.

That is awesome, Sofy - I could totally see those PT replacements also being useful for a botched witch spell where they turn their familiar into a human (like you could in Sims1 back in the day, if I remember clearly)

Inertia, those posters are wonderful! I also love how they look a bit aged and weathered.

Not sure if anyone has a use for these, but I'm just going to dump this here. I love Mass Effect and its lore and Shepard's bad-assery and probing Uranus, so I slapped some of the codex art on a mesh by Blake_boy that I wanted more recolours of. You can't see it well here, but it has a shiny mirror-like effect (I love shiny!). Perhaps for your fanboys/fangirls or... future interior designers or apocalypse doomsayers. I thought they looked rather snappy on a black wall with spots.

Oh my, you're right, it would have! Tara Kat would have adored having a kitten baby! Thanks for this thought... I might save it for when I play my Uberhood. ;)

And thank you AceofSpades; I don't remember Sims1 so well (I only played a little bit, and then only the basegame. It was my brother's thing back then) but I would love to see results of witches turning their familiar into humans!

I've had this ready since February (!) but never got to posting it. I'm glad because that means I get to contribute to a monthly theme   I have for you my second Multi-PT set, Version: Blue, to complement the first set, Version: Green.

These are the pollinators.  They come in both custom and default flavors, so only install one and remember if you currently have a Multi-PT set, you'll have to remove it before using mine.  But leave the sim files so your current aliens still have parents.  The custom set has a folder containing the skins and eyes in case you do not already have them.  Make sure you install them or your aliens will end up borked and borked is bad.  The default set will of course use whatever alien defaults, if any, you have installed.

Feel free to change skins/eyes on my sims and reupload the resulting Multi-PT set as long as you credit me.  I'm sure the CC I used won't be to everyone's taste.  The only thing I ask is that you don't tweak their facial features and claim them as your own.  And no TSR, but that should be a no-brainer  :zombie:

Io's CC: skin by Fantasyrogue (http://fantasyrogue.livejournal.com/35729.html), eyes by CuriousB (http://gardenofshadows.org.uk/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=20931.msg536164#msg536164)

Callisto's CC: skin by Fantasyrogue (http://fantasyrogue.livejournal.com/29037.html), eyes by Nabila (http://nabila-ici.livejournal.com/15070.html)

I've posted pictures of the spawn and downloads for all of them at my LJ comm (http://brilliantsims.livejournal.com/16441.html) rather than being a spammy spam-a-lot here so feel free to check them out too!  Enjoy!

Well, I did not think I could contribute anything this month, then I remembered I had this guy in my sims bin. So, here, have a little, dorky Alien:

REM

He was something like a lucky accident in my game, and has spent there several incarnations, already.
Usually, is a somewhat shy, friendly little guy, who terribly longs for having a family and a place to call 'home'. Being very curious, he loves technics and everything having to do with natural sciences...

Jenga_Jane, for being so very nice and taking preview pictures for me

A special thanks, too, to everyone on lj who offered me feed-back and encouraged me to share him.  :)

Sproglet Flying Saucer

(coffin kicker size)

* Two versions - one with the top, one without (because the Universe atmosphere is mostly vacuum, and flying around in an open flying saucer is just stupid).
* Not slaved, and different GUIDs, so you can choose one or both.
* Cloned from the baby bouncing seat, so you'll need AL, M&G, a store version or a recent collection version (after AL) for them to work. They're animated, and bounces up and down.
* You find them in the misc/child section. Same price as the original.
* Files are compressed
* Polycount is around the same as the original Maxis/EA UFO - around 2500 faces/vertices for the no frame version, and around 3000 faces/vertices for the frame version.
* Two recolorable subsets on both (the glow part and the saucer, frame part is not recolorable)
* You might need the original bouncy toy for them to work, so it's included (together with a fixed sound file - from MATY, I think).
* it's for babies/newborns/infants, NOT for toddlers (just in case anyone wonders)

Custom description:
"Teach your little sproglets to defy gravity with this nifty baby toy. It will keep the baby occupied for hours upon hours, while you have your hands free to conquer the universe."

Post by: Theraven on May 19, 2011, 04:56:43 PM
Actually, that would be an IFS (Identified Flying Sprog ;))
Flying saucers aren't actually UFOs, since UFO means "Unidentified Flying Object." If it's identified as a space ship, flying saucer, rocket or even a regular old plane, then it's an IFO (Identified Flying Object). It can only be called an UFO if you can't figure out what it is.

Thanks, everyone :)

I've downloaded so many awesome things, and now I'm a little excited that I actually have something to contribute. I'm working on defaulting katu's new Milkshake skin set and I finished with the alien default, so I thought I'd upload it here first since it fit this month's theme.

(coffin kicker size)

You can see full previews of the skins here (http://applesims.net/delicious-milkshake-a-skintone-blend/). (The skins are anatomically correct, so that link is not safe for work.)

All credit goes to katu, of course. The only changes I made were some minor edits to the elder female nipples and collarbone.

I've made other sims of the companions of Doctor Who and I felt bad that I'd never gotten round to Rory Williams, perhaps my favourite companion of the new series. My sudden urge to sim him coincided perfectly with this theme, so here he is!

Nurse, husband to Amy, and occasional plastic Roman (don't ask), Rory has died more times than Kenny, yet he keeps coming back for more.

Rory comes with all the CC listed, and is packaged in a base game outfit. I do have all the eps, so you might want to install him using Clean Installer.

I have always said that I will create a skintone set if ever this theme were to finally be chosen, and thus 'Spectrum'. A set of six skintone blends in each of the primary and secondary tones, and each with different markings on the face and/or body. Hope you enjoy.

Sneebs, these skintones are gorgeous. I love how you incorporated differ alien aspects in each skintone, and I love how though those features are different, they coincide quite well! Thank you so much, Sneebs!

Diving in under the wire here with some neon recolors of the Nikko Lounge Chair by MaxoidMonkey.  Originally I was gonna do the space-agey dining chairs from the game, but frankly I like this one better. :P  Seven colors in all:

Oh my god yay skins! Those skins are so great, I was desperately hoping someone would make more skins. These have far exceeded my expectations.

Those chairs are pretty snazzy too.

I have really been enjoying this month's theme. Lots of cool stuff.

Love the skintones, Sneebs. So far, it has been my favorite of the month.

I am also going to get a lot of milage out of Fainiel's Doctor Who character, Rory. I've been planning to make one, but you beat me to it.  ;)

I also like the chairs, angieshade.

I have a little something to share. :)
This is a blend of Zesta02's Zoen skin (http://www.modthesims.info/d/234505) and Pooklet's My Poor Lover (http://pooklet.dreamwidth.org/9433.html).

Which of'course come in bloodied up versions as well:

Thanks for all the other uploads this month - especially to Sneebs and Tea Leaf for the gorgeous skintones!

!UPDATED!

This is a very, very small offering, as I didn't have much time (or inspiration, I'm afraid to say) this month. Inspired by MissBubbles' own contribution, may I present three sci-fi-ish beddings, including one featuring a certain Time Lord's rather sexy transportation (plus cute robots and even cuter aliens):

(should be coffin-kicker friendly)

And just to prove that they also work on single beds:

Hmm, I'm afraid I did it again - that's what comes of uploading things in a hurry! There's nothing exactly borked about the beddings, but I realized today that I originally uploaded the wrong version, with slightly heavier shading than I intended...  :-[

If you'd prefer a version with slightly less shading on the quilting, then please re-download (download link has been updated).
